MANCHESTER UNITED TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: Latest updates as Real Madrid talks continue…
Saturday June 17
03:40: Michael Essien insists there is no reason why Romelu Lukaku could not work together again with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
"In general it was good and normal [Essien's relationship with Jose Mourinho]," Essien told MEN.
“We all had different relationships with Jose and mine, as everyone knows, is like a father and son.
"I won’t say Romelu’s relationship with Jose was the same as mine but, in general, it was normal and they respected each other.
"If Jose wants him and he wants to play for Jose then yes they can work together.
"They both have to want to work with each other for that to happen and if the desire is there then yes they can work together."
00:55: Cristiano Ronaldo wants to secure a move back to Manchester United, according to reports.
The Real Madrid superstar wants to leave the Bernabeu after growing frustrated at tax allegations lodged against him.
And the Sun claim Sir Alex Ferguson could hold the key to him returning to Old Trafford.
David De Gea, who has been a long-term target for Real, could also be used a bait to lure the Portugal superstar back to the Premier League.
The report adds Real want around £150million for Ronaldo and the prospect of signing De Gea could also aid United in their bid to sign Alvaro Morata.
Friday 16 June
22:50: Adnan Januzaj could be on his way out of Manchester United this summer after Real Sociedad chief Jokin Aperribay confirmed his interest in the Belgium international.
Aperribay said: “It’s true that we are interested (in Januzaj), but we are not in talks with Manchester or with him.
“We are waiting for the decision of Manchester United and then we will act.
“There are more teams interested in him and his signing won’t be easy.”
Januzaj has just 12 months remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford.

21:05: PSV Eindhoven forward Jurgen Locadia has revealed that he dreams of playing for Manchester United.
The 23-year-old was absent for the majority of last season with a groin strain, but still managed to rack up four goals and four assists in 11 starts.
He told NOS: “Manchester United is my dream, but via an intermediate step. The path Georginio Wijnaldum has walked, from Newcastle United to Liverpool I like.”
20:20: Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes Alvaro Morata's impending move to Manchester United is good for all parties.
Alvaro Morata is edging closer to completing a move from Real Madrid to Manchester United.
There is still thought to just be the fee between both clubs left to be agreed and former Madrid president Calderon believes it is the right move for the striker - with his comments suggesting a deal has already been agreed.
The 66-year-old told The Sun: “Alvaro Morata is not happy at Real Madrid.
“He hasn’t played and it’s the kind of deal and agreement which is great for all sides. The player, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
“All parties will be very happy with the deal.”
19:45: Tottenham have slapped a £50million price-tag on Manchester United target Eric Dier.
The Telegraph claim Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign the versatile midfielder, 23, before the season gets underway.
But chairman Daniel Levy’s £50 million valuation is considerably higher then the Red Devils were expecting to pay for the England international.
United view Dier as the long-term replacement for Michael Carrick, who is unlikely to remain at Old Trafford beyond June 2018.

Cristiano Ronaldo could head back to Manchester United this summer
18:25: David De Gea is reportedly house-hunting in Real Madrid.
Spanish publication Diario Gol suggest the Manchester United goalkeeper is looking for a move to the capital.
They also claim AC Milan goalkeeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been offered to United with his agent Mino Raiola having a strong relationship with the Red Devils.
16:27: Manchester United have competition in the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo is available after spectacularly telling Real Madrid he wants to quit the club.
Manchester United and PSG are interested in the Portugal superstar.
But German side Hertha Berlin have made the first approach.
They tweeted: "Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid.
"No cash, but a galactic challenge and Berlin will love you like a son. Interested, Cristiano Ronaldo?"
Ronaldo is yet to reply to the offer.
15:45: Manchester United would be a possible destination for Cristiano Ronaldo if he left Real Madrid this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.
Ronaldo wants to quit Real due to his current tax row and Solhekol says United are one of a few clubs who could afford him.
"There will be lots of clubs who will be trying to sign him if he become available," Solhekol said on Sky Sports News.
"Although he's 31 years old, the transfer fee you would be looking at would probably be another world record transfer fee.
"The problem is there are very few clubs who would be able to afford him or afford his wages.
"Possible destinations would be Manchester United, PSG and China."
14:32: One of Cristiano Ronaldo's reasons for wanting to leave Real Madrid is that he is keen on a change of scenery.
Ronaldo has spent the last eight years in the Spanish capital.
And he is said to have been hurt by allegations of tax fraud, which he denies.
Marca claim Ronaldo wants to leave Spain with his girlfriend and son.
And they report that Manchester is an attractive destination for the ex-Manchester United star.
13:15: Real Madrid are weighing up a bid for Gianluigi Donnarumma - and that could have an impact on David De Gea.
Manchester United and Juventus are interested in landing Donnarumma, who yesterday rejected a new contract at AC Milan.
But Real are favourites to get a deal done.
The Manchester Evening News claim De Gea is worried that Donnarumma's arrival at the Bernabeu would ruin any hopes he has of securing a move to the European champions.
And the goalkeeper could therefore look to instigate the move soon.

13.00: Manchester United are not willing to match Inter Milan's valuation for winger Ivan Perisic, according to Italian football expert Gabriele Marcotti.
Perisic has been linked with a move to United this summer but Marcotti cannot see a deal going through.
"I think this has been driven by agents all along saying 'Mourinho loves Perisic, he really wants Perisic, they're going to spend £70-80million on him'," he said on ESPN FC.
"And then as we reach crunch time the numbers seem to be getting smaller and smaller, there's big gaps in the supposed valuation.
"United see him reportedly as a sort of a £30million-type player, Inter want £45million or whatever it is."
12:15: Atletico Madrid are reportedly plotting to use the funds from selling Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United next summer to re-sign  Sergio Aguero.
United missed out in their long pursuit of Griezmann after he opted to stay at the La Liga club and sign a new deal, but his buyout clause has stayed at £86million.
That is set to see the 26-year-old finally move to Old Trafford in 2018.
Atletico could subsequently take advantage of Aguero's situation at Manchester City if the striker suffers next season under Pep Guardiola with Gabriel Jesus now taking centre stage.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the option to move back to Atletico would be too good to reject.
A three-way operation involving United, City and Atletico could ensue next summer, as it is expected United will return with a fresh approach for Griezmann, where part of the transfer fee would go towards an offer to City for Aguero.

10:55: Manchester United showed Arsenal the world's best players can be attracted without Champions League football, says John Hartson.
United signed the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic last summer without playing in Europe's elite club competition.
Hartson says Arsenal must follow their lead to be able to compete for the Premier League title next term.
"Arsenal's priority this summer is to be in for big players," he said on Sky Sports.
"It's difficult attracting big names, the biggest names in football when you've not got Champions League of course.
"But Manchester United were able to attract them when they didn't have Champions League. They brought in the likes of (Zlatan) Ibrahimoivc, Mkhitaryan, one or two others."
10:33: Aston Villa are hoping they can convince Sam Johnstone to quit Manchester United for Villa Park - despite a number of other clubs eyeing the goalkeeper.
Johnstone played on loan at Villa in the second half of last season and is available.
It is claimed United are demanding £5m for the 24-year-old, although Villa are keen on another loan move.

A Bola claim Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid
10.25: Manchester United are favourites to sign Cristiano Ronaldo following reports that he wants to leave Real Madrid.
Ronaldo is said to be keen to get out of Spain altogether following claims he has avoided paying tax.
And he is back on Manchester United’s radar and betway think a deal could be on.
“While sealing a romantic return to Manchester United is still a way off, rumours of Ronaldo wanting to quit Madrid have seen Jose Mourinho’s side rise to the top of the betting at 7/1,” Alan Alger said.
"This is one of the hottest bits of betting action we have seen on our transfer markets so far and pretty much every slip reads ‘Ronaldo to Man United at 7/1’.
“Until a little more is revealed we’re keeping Real Madrid at 1/6 to retain Ronaldo’s services, but United head the betting outside of the Galacticos and we’ve seen plenty of interest.”
10:10Kylian Mbappe could suffer the same fate at Arsenal as Anthony Martial has at Manchester United, according to Emmanuel Petit.
Mbappe has been linked with a move to the Gunners from Monaco, the same team Martial left for Old Trafford in 2015.
"I would love it (for him to join Arsenal). I remember two years ago we had almost the same example as Martial," former Arsenal midfielder Petit said on talkSPORT.
"Martial was very good the first months with Manchester United and since (Jose) Mourinho has managed the team he's not in the same position anymore. It's a risk."

Cristiano Ronaldo calls Sir Alex Ferguson 'boss'

09:34: Manchester United are reportedly on alert after Cristiano Ronaldo told Real Madrid he wants to leave the club.
The shock report splashed across Portuguese newspaper A Bola's front page claims Ronaldo has had enough of life in La Liga.
The striker has told Real president Florentino Perez he wants to leave Spain.
He has been embroiled in a lawsuit over tax avoidance allegations and is said to be unhappy with his situation.
A Bola claim the decision to leave Madrid is 'irreversible' and will seek to leave the club after representing Portugal at the Confederations Cup this summer.
The Independent claim United would be willing to bring the 32-year-old back to Old Trafford.
The Reed Devils are already seeking a new frontman following Zlatan Ibrahimovic's release.
08:53: A quick update on Gianluigi Donnarumma.
While Manchester United may think they have a chance of signing the goalkeeper, Italy's biggest sports newspapers all have him going to Real Madrid.
Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport both claim Real are keen on the goalkeeper.
And Tuttosport report that PSG, Inter Milan and Juventus are also gunning to sign the 18-year-old.
United have a working relationship with Donnarumma's agent Mino Raiola but that may not be enough to secure a deal.

Man Utd transfer news: De Gea and Morata could swap clubs as West Ham drop interest in Smalling
08:20: Manchester United and Inter Milan are struggling to come to an agreement over Ivan Perisic's value.
According to ESPN, the Italians are holding firm over their £48m price-tag, while United believe the winger is worth no more than £35m.
The Red Devils are prepared to offer a performance-related add-on to help broker a deal.
But Inter are determined to receive their full asking price, with the clubs standing at £13m apart.
07:50: One boost for United over the David De Gea saga is that one of their targets to replace the goalkeeper is available.
United want to keep De Gea but could arrange for him to leave for Real Madrid in a £45m PLUS Alvaro Morata deal (7:00).
And the Red Devils may immediately swoop for Gianluigi Donnarumma as a replacement.
Donnarumma will not renew his contract with AC Milan, putting a number of Europe's top clubs on high alert.
"We are disheartened. (Donnarumma's agent) Mino Raiola has conveyed to me Donnarumma's decision not to renew. It's his final decision,” Milan CEO Marco Fassone said yesterday.
“Raiola informed us that Donnarumma has made a definitive decision not to renew the contract with Milan. We had made a strong proposal.
“The player evaluated it and made some evaluations that were not just economic, but he told us that he does not wish to renew the contract and his time with Milan will therefore conclude by June 30, 2018.”

07:40: West Ham's interest in Chris Smalling is cooling.
The Hammers were thought to be ready to make a £10m bid for the Engalnd centre-back.
But the Daily Star claim manager Slaven Bilic is more keen to bolster the full-back positions at the London Stadium.
Bilic is supposedly happy with his centre-backs Winston Reid, James Collins and Jose Fonte.
And West Ham are not willing to match United's £12m valuation of Smalling.
07:15: Manchester United want to sign Benfica midfielder Anderson Talisca.
United this week confirmed the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
And the club are set to raid the Lisbon outfit yet again with a £15m push for Talisca.
Discussing interest from United, Talisca said: "I've had a good season, and Mourinho has a love [for me] that exists, I will not lie.
"It's a dream, something that all players want. As I said, his love is old and I like his work. He's a great coach and I hope everything works out."
He added: "I can't talk about Manchester United. It's not just up to me.
"It's up to Benfica, my representatives, who are dealing with the situation. Soon, they'll have news.”
07:00:  manager Jose Mourinho has told Real Madrid they will not get David De Gea unless they meet his £100m valuation.
United do not want to sell De Gea but could struggle to keep the goalkeeper happy at Old Trafford.
De Gea is understood to be open to moving back to Madrid, having previously played for Real's city rivals Atletico.
And Real will have to do some major negotiating in order to get the deal through.
According to the Daily Star, Mourinho has told Real to stump up £45m AND throw £55m-rated Alvaro Morata into the bargain in order to land the shot-stopper.
United are keen to bring in a new centre-forward to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Morata, 24, has been identified as Mourinho's top choice to come in and lead the Red Devils line.
And United have been left waiting to see how Real will react to Mourinho's latest proposal.
