ANTHONY ADA ABRAHAM writes on the 10 Artites to watchout for in 2017 with some additional infomation from notjustok.
Here are some artistes we are excited about going into the year. Some of them are relatively new in the game, some made it on the list based on buzz garnered in 2016 while some made it based on their talent level alone
Here are the 10 artistes to watch out for in 2017.
Ceeza Milli
Ceeza Milli formerly known as Efine is an afro-pop and dancehall act. He garnered some buzz in Ghana during his Uni days when he recorded a few underground mixtapes. His first professional single entitled “Stamina” featured rap heavyweight Sarkodie and it did decently well in Ghana.
Ceeza moved back home to Nigeria after he has concluded his studies to pursue his musical dreams, and he has done tremendously well since his return. Steady killing hooks and delivering dope verses on both features and solo efforts.
Ceeza is definitely one of the hot prospects of 2017 and he’s sure one to keep an eye on.
Mayorkun
It’s been almost a year since Mayorkun
saw his fortunes change as he got signed to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) for his stellar cover of Davido and Olamide’s “The Money”. He released his first official single “Eleko”
on the 7th of April, 2016 and he has since been an artist to reckon with.
Dubbed the rookie of the year at the 2016 Headies, an evidence of how much impact the young singer has made in such a short time. 2017 promises to be a good year for the DMW signee with the number of projects lined up for him.
Tekno
Since this Abuja born artiste was spotted by renowned Nigerian comedian Julius Agwu at an event after he received a standing ovation following the performance of a song titled “Onye Ne Kwu”, his remix of Ice Prince’s “Oleku”his music career has continued to grow making him released singles like “Dance” and “Anything” which won him a nomination in the “Best New act of the Year” category at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards . And the release of ‘Pana’ which won him the LEADERSHIP Artiste of the Year Award has continue to be a song for lovers. 2017 surely going to be for Tekno who is doing very well for himself.
Wizkid
On April 5, 2016, Wizkid became Nigeria’s first artist to emerge on
Billboard ’s Twitter Last 24 hours chart following his guest feature on Drake’s afrobeat-infused “ One Dance “ single, which charted at number 21 and in May 12, 2016, the song reached number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a position it kept for 10 non-consecutive weeks. The single went on to become an international smash hit, topping the charts in 15 different countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France and Germany. The single thereby became Wizkid’s first number-one single as a featured artiste in these territories.
On 5 June 2016, Wizkid released the promotional single “Like This”. The song made its premiere on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio in June 2016. It was produced by Amsterdam-based Ghanaian producer DJ Henry X. Sheldon Pearce of Pitchfork Media described the song as a “frolicking, summery jam that revels in all the work he [Wizkid]’s put in.” There is a better 2017 for this kid.
Mr Eazi
Since he released his breakthrough single “PIPI DANCE” and also recorded his first mixtape “About to blow” produced by Klumonsta, the young man has not looked back . He went on to record “Bankulize” Remix which was a single of the “About to blow” mixtape with Uk based Ghanaian frontline producer Dj Juls . The music is made in Ghana, inspired by Ghana but Mr Eazi has no nationality, he’s a worldwide citizen. This new mix propelled Mr Eazi to stardom and paved the way for other hit songs like “Skintight” , “Hollup” and “Sample you”
Branding his Genre “Banku Music” ( A subset of Afrobeats ) which is characterized by laid back ( itis-like ) deliveries on majorly afro-soulful instrumentals, influenced by his Ghanaian/Nigerian cultural upbringing. Mr Eazi is the fastest rising Afro-beats artist with four Hit singles already to his credit.
Runtown
Runtown’s “Ghetto University”, which churned out hits like ‘Lagos to Kampala’, ‘Bend Down Pause’, ‘Gallardo’, ‘Whalahi’, and ‘Tuwo Shinkafa’ which he recently released a video for.

Runtown adulates his superwoman’s hot body as she ‘whines’her body. This is the modern day ‘Sexual Healing’.
Ghanaian girls would be all over this one – the song has the effect of pulling bees to honey.
Runtown is about to go worldwide with this one. It would go well into 2017.

This British-born Nigerian
record producer and recording artiste has done very well for himself and we are proud of him. After his break into the spotlight in 2012, Maleek Berry was nominated in the “Music Producer of the Year” category at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Currently signed as an in-house producer to
